About

The Visionarieees Design Competition is a quarter-long, project-based competition. It aims to motivate college students to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams toward a broad project prompt. To support this, they will be given access to a wide range of arts and engineering materials (through the Envision Maker Studio) and tools, workshops, and mentors. During the 8 weeks that the competition is active, teams of 4-6 will work together to create a final product and video submission that align with the chosen prompt.

EDC
What is an everyday carry (EDC)? According to everydaycarry.com, your EDC is “the collection of items you carry [...] on a daily basis”, where each item is “truly essential”. For the Visionarieees competition, an EDC should be a “truly essential” item for the day-to-day life of a group of your choice.

All UCSD undergraduate students are eligible (regardless of major, minor, part-time status, transfer status)

Q: How do I know if my project fits the prompt?
A: The theme is designed to be broad and it is up to you or your team as to how you interpret it. The most common EDCs would be phones and wallets. You should be fine as long as you have a target audience and you can reach out to us on discord if you are still concerned!
Q: What counts as a group of your choice?
A: Any group with a shared quality. This group can be as small as your childhood friend group or as large as the women of Earth. The world is at the limits of your imagination.
Q: Can I participate if I have no technical experience?
A: Yes, Visionarieees is not meant to be a heavily technical competition. The final rubric prioritizes the design process over the precision of technical work. If you want to practice your technical skills, we offer workshops and mentors to guide your learning.
Q: Can I participate if I have no design experience?
A: Yes, Visionarieees is open to students of all experience levels! Regardless of where you are in your design journey, Visionarieees is a learning opportunity to practice your skills around fellow creatives.
Q: What will Visionarieees help me learn?
A: Visionarieees is aimed to help students practice going through the design process including, researching, designing, iterating, prototyping, and user testing.
Q: How should I contact my mentor?
A: Mentors will be accessible through the discord server. Contact them with an @mentors ping to have your questions answered!
Q: Can my product be software?
A: Yes! However, in order for it to fall under this year's prompt, you may need to do some more explaining on the final poster since the intuition for an EDC is hardware…
Q: Where do I ask for more information about Visionarieees?
